The article was researching on how the literacy level can influence the health of the patients in America. It goes on to explain that Nurse practitioners have the responsibility to provide relevant information to patients with regards to their health. However, in most cases the nurses fail to provide all this relevant information because of their busy schedule. To compensate for this, the nurses provide some reading materials to their patients to go and read at home. The shocking revelation is that most of the patients are not able to read and understand these reading materials they are provided with. This has been recognized as a major concern in the healthcare field, including stakeholders such as insurance companies, health practitioners, and pharmaceuticals have started looking into the concern. The article defines the literacy level as the ability to read, write, and communicate in English language as well as being able to do a math problem and solving general problems in their work and society.
