The Scarlet Letter :: essays research papers

"The Scarlet Letter" Roger Chillinworth was once a good puritan who lived a good puritan life and he was married to Hester Prynne. Then he went to travel. When he came, instead of getting a good and warm welcome from his beloved wife he saw her standing on the town scaffold with a letter of shame on her chest. He stood there, completely wrecked and knew that his life as he knew it so far was all lost. Ever since Roger Chillingworth's heart was broken and his life destroyed by Hester, he has deticated his life to revenge her and her adulterer, Dimmesdale. Being unable to return to his normal and good life practically destroyed and as he revenged them he becomes a devil (Chillingworth: 'I have already told thee what I am! A fiend! Who made me so?'; 'It was myself'; cried Hester, shuddering.). That revenge is what made him try to prevent Dimmesdale from confessing in the last scaffold scene. The scarlet letter had hurt Hester every day and every moment a lot, so Chillingworth let it do the avenge work alone without interfering (Hester: 'Why hast thou not avenged thyself on me?'; 'I have left thee to the scarlet letter';replied Roger Chillingworth.). But for Dimmesdale he had a whole different plan. He came back to town as a different person with a different name. Now he was Roger Chillingworth (We don't know his name before the first scaffold incident), a well-appreciated and educated physician. He came to help Dimmesdale, who was very sick. He became his close physician and they became very close friends. But the truth was that Chillingworth was constantly investigating Dimmesdale and reaching to the depth of his heart and prying his secrets and by that constantly hurting him. Dimmesdale was hurt because he lived a life of lies. To the world he was clergyman Dimmesdale - a wise man who was considered a saint, but in his heart he knew a different image of himself, as a sinner who is afraid to confess. Throughout the story it is hinted that if he had confessed he would have been relieved a long time ago and would not have been so sick.

What I hope to expect out of life in 10 years

I the blink of an eye times passes so quickly and we are left wondering what happened where has the time gone, it fears us knowing how easily it is for life to change in the blink of an eye . I have reached the stage in my life that I just want happiness and good health for myself and my family†¦ Sometimes we don't know what's round the corner and life can so cruel.Thinking of life in ten years time can be scary I can think of two different paths; my dream path and my probably the path that will happen in the real world. In 10 year time I will be a few months of 50 and that's an achievement in itself. Hopefully in 10 years my diabetic health has stayed stable and my non cancerous tumour has remained non cancerous†¦.. Hopefully that time bomb within me hasn't went off.Firstly my dream path for 10 years time would be that to have fast tracked education, college and uni and perhaps be doing my dream job in life and that would be working as a baby nurse, helping little sick bab ies, whilst also raring my 4 beautiful children, the two eldest ones imagine will have flown the nest, maybe I will be a grandmother, and that will be the most beautiful gift of all. Whilst my 2 younger boys I imagine and hope that they will be 2 handsome teenagers and I am sure bringing plenty of teenage worrie to my door.

Firstly, it is important to for the buildings to have the necessary security measures such as emergency doors and other evacuation equipment such as gas kits. Additionally, all the participants in the hospital should be aware of the places where these security devices located to use them when necessary. I should always ensure that all the outside doors remain closed to prevent unauthorized persons from the patients and the premises. I should aim at ensuring the safety of colleagues, and the patients in the hospital get protection Moreover, If suspect a patient with acute eye casualty; I should report the matter to the nurse in charge and the managers. Additionally, if I realize that my colleague is alone with a patient, I should use the switchboard 633335 that is placed at QMC to call the security. I should raise the concern so that the situation is known for any assistance needed. Apparently, I should move around with my colleagues in all the treatment rooms if I doubt their security while alone. During this period, I sit closer to a panic button to raise the alarm if security is needed. My awareness in the NUH is aggressive, violence and harassment. These are the policies required in the working environment. Additionally, I should ensure that after 8.30 pm there is a security button that the patients can press. I can, therefore, be in a position to check whom they are. The police office located on the QMC is beneficial. According to me, this is the procedure I would follow at NUH.
